Senior Lighting Artist

Our ideal candidate is passionate about lighting and visual storytelling, capable of translating artistic visions into immersive in-game environments. You will collaborate closely with the Art Director and an agile cross-disciplinary team including Level Design, Concept Art, Environment Art, and Technical Art to create lighting solutions that enhance mood, support gameplay, and align with creative and performance goals. You thrive in a dynamic, collaborative setting and enjoy balancing technical requirements with artistic creativity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create and refine static and dynamic lighting in Unreal Engine 5.
- Assist in defining and implementing lighting standards across the project.
- Maintain and promote best practices for physically-based lighting workflows.
- Collaborate closely with the Art Director, Environment and Technical Art teams to ensure lighting clearly reflects and reinforces the project’s high-level art direction pillars throughout the game.
- Own the lighting process from concept through final polish, ensuring visual and performance standards.
- Address and solve technical issues related to lighting tools, pipelines, and performance optimization.
- Provide structured guidance and oversight to artists across multiple disciplines, enabling them to contribute and assist effectively with lighting tasks throughout production, ensuring cohesive visual quality.
- Demonstrate versatility by contributing as needed to tasks in either Technical Art or Environment Art, according to your area of expertise, while maintaining primary ownership of the lighting pipeline.
REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of professional real-time lighting experience on PC or current-gen consoles.
- Deep understanding of runtime and pre-baked lighting methods in Unreal Engine, including familiarity with Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen lighting system and its integration into real-time lighting workflows.
- Strong grasp of physically-based rendering (PBR), color theory, and HDR techniques.
- Proven ability to use lighting to enhance mood, atmosphere, and gameplay experience.
- Strong secondary skills in either Technical Art or Environment Art, enabling effective cross-disciplinary contributions as needed. (Note: Expertise in both areas is not required; proficiency in one to complement lighting skills is sufficient.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills with both creative and technical stakeholders.
- Self-driven and capable of managing your own workload and schedules.
- Familiarity with scripting or programming languages is a plus but not required
